A gear shaper is a gear-shaped or rack-shaped gear processing tool. Shaper cutters are used to machine internal and external meshing spur gears and helical cylindrical gears according to the generation method (see gear machining). The characteristic of the gear shaper is that it can process shoulder gears, multi-stage gears and herringbone gears without empty grooves. The special-shaped gear shaper can also process other workpieces of various shapes.
Gear shaper knives are divided into four types: disc, bowl, cylinder and taper shank. The disc gear shaper is mainly used for processing internal and external meshing spur gears, gear shaper helical gears and herringbone gears.
